CIS 1020 - Computer Essentials
I took CIS 1020 in Fall Semester 2011 to complete my Computer Literacy requirement. This computer Essentials course helped me build on my computer skills by creating projects that are practical for everyday use. This class helped really helped me in all of my classes with writing essays in Word and designing Math spreadsheets in Excel. I am displaying projects of mine from this class in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to demonstrate my knowledge of these programs upon finishing the class.

Reflection:
In these and other class projects I was able show my ability to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint effectively. With Word I learned formatting, inserting text, modifying formatting, and inserting clip art. With Excel I created charts, data tables, formatted formulas, and formatted cells. With PowerPoint I inserted graphics, changed layouts, and used animations.
These Projects required me to gather and analyze information from the instruction sheets and turn them into newsletters, spreadsheets, and presentations. Creating and applying formulas for the spreadsheets required me to use quantitative literacy. It was nice to create projects that are practical, designs that I can use in real life scenarios. Almost every career involves the need to have some sort of computer knowledge and I felt like this class helped me build on the computer skills that I already had. Computers and technology are a huge part of communications and by learning these skills it helped me and will continue to help me communicate effectively.
