Elements of Effective Communication 

 For my Communication course's e-Portfolio page  I choose to post my favorite assignment,which was the career research interview. I interviewed Staci Crane, an Elementary school teacher, to find out additional information on what it's like to be a teacher. Part one of this assignment was the preparation for the interview. I focused on the background information of my interviewee, some basic research on my interviewee's career, and the questions I wanted to ask during the interview. Part two of this assignment was the results of my  interview, such as her daily tasks,her training and education, and how she got started. Also included in part two is my interview analysis and my analysis of my interview process. This project is my favorite because it was both informative and fun to do. It required me to step out of my comfort zone to ask around for someone to interview but gave me lots of information on what to expect when I become an Elementary school teacher. 

This communication's class focused on the best ways to present yourself in interviews, during presentations, and in the workplace. This class was good for me in that several of the projects took me out of my comfort zone. Not to say that it wasn't a bit stressful leaving my comfort zone but I did feel like I expanded my braveness a little. I will soon be entering the work place for the first time in several years so I found the interview preparation tips to be extremely helpful. It made me really think about my initial impression to employers and how important it is.

I think I will be able to apply some of the tips I have learned in this class to other classes and other areas of my life. Presentation skills are needed for any career and class and although I dread public speaking there were some helpful tips to make my anxiety and nervousness a little more manageable. I was able to use these tips when presenting my speech for this course. I also appreciated some of the strategies for being a more effective listener. I think being an effective listener can help you be a better friend,spouse, and employee. I was able to end this class with some good information and feeling better prepared for the workplace.
